Open Source is collaboration. In a more comprehensive sense, it is an accessible work on the projects Open Source. It is possible to give the following definition to Open Source Initiative (OSI):

"Open Source promotes the increase of reliability and quality of the software by providing an independent expert evaluation and fast development of the open initial code.

In order to receive the permission from OSI, the software should be distributed only on the basis of the license agreement which gives the right for reading, distribution, updating and free use ".

Open Source can be used by individuals, by companies and by organizations who wish to apply such programs. According to Open Source Initiative, Open Source consists of 10 components which are described here.

The users are mostly attracted by the software with an open initial code because of the price. It happens frequently that software is distributed by its author. However, a low price is not the most important quality of the software with an open code.

The main arguments for the development of such software are:

  • Programs with an open initial code enable the developer to check up an initial code to find out if it is possible to improve it and use it in his or her programs.
  • Volunteers from all over the world can contribute by offering translations, technical information, reports on mistakes in programs or by helping in any other way.
  • A free exchange of ideas accelerates the process of innovation.
  • According to GNU Manifesto, people have the moral right to use well written software.
